USS Peosta


USS Peosta [Naval Historical Center, NH 42896]




Peosta, originally constructed as a commercial steamer in 1857 at Cincinnati, Ohio, was purchased in 1863 by the Navy and converted into Federal tinclad number 36.  Most of her career involved patrolling the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers.  She survived the war and was decommissioned in August 1865.
