The SHPO is a division of the
Nebraska State Historical Society, which is the leader in heritage education in Nebraska. Materials are available regarding historic architecture, national register properties, historic documents, historic farms, community history, genealogy, and historic sites. Teacher workshops incorporating slide lectures and historic sites are available. The State Historical Society has been a leader in initiating interest, materials, and services regarding heritage education in Nebraska.

The Nebraska Preservation Network is a network of preservation-related activities and persons in Nebraska. The NPN holds at least one workshop per year covering topics relating to the built environment, architectural history, restoration, and adaptive reuse. Doane College offers history and education courses, and is currently developing a heritage education program for eighth graders using multi-media.
