Our Goals

The goals of the Center for Historic Preservation are:

  • To stimulate and support economic development in Tennessee through applied research programs and activities which focus on identification, protection, promotion, and interpretation of heritage resources.
  • To encourage in all citizens and residents of the state a sense of pride, place, and belonging.
  • To enhance and promote the image of Tennessee higher education through an intense program of professional accomplishment and leadership at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
  • To provide training, materials, and assistance for teachers and school systems in grades K-12, in higher education, and for the out-of-school adult public on heritage-related topics.
  • To support the university's academic programs which relate to historic preservation including history, historic preservation/public history, education, geography, and human sciences.
