US MILITARY RAILROADS:  EAST TENNESSEE & GEORGIA

The East Tennessee & Georgia Railroad ran 112 miles from Knoxville to Chattanooga.  Throughout the war, there were numerous military actions along this rail line involving attacks on railroad equipment and facilities (see Railroad-Related Military Events).

The oldest surviving Tennessee railroad depot is located at Niota, which was called Mouse Creek at the time of the Civil War.
